My mission is to help you heal. I want you to leave your Shiatsu treatment feeling better, relaxed and more energised as my priority is your overall health.
I was first introduced to Tenketsu (pressure points) through the Japanese Martial Arts and my studies in Ninjitsu 30 years ago. Over the years and thanks to Shiatsu I have become more aware of certain Tsubo (acupressure points) and the special pathways that carry human energy that the Japanese calls Ki.
I am a registered Shiatsu and Oriental therapist qualified in Japanese moxibustion therapy and Teishin (non-insertive acupuncture therapy. I am also currently studying a double degree in both a Bachelor in Health Science (Acupuncture) and Bachelor of Health Science (Chinese Medicine).
The principle of Shiatsu, or acupressure as some practitioners call it, is the same as that of acupuncture. The 14 main meridians are used as energy pathways and the classic acupuncture points are used as point of treatment. Diagnosis is performed in exactly the same way as in acupuncture: pulse, tongue, palpation, listening and observing and the Japanese unique stomach hara diagnosis. However, instead of using needles for the treatment as in acupuncture, finger pressure is used in Shiatsu treatment (Japanese 'shi', finger, and 'atsu', pressure). This form of treatment was introduced in Japan as a healing technique, although the theory and application both stem from the same principle as acupuncture in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
Cupping is extensively used during Shiatsu sessions, and the treatment principle should be the same as in acupuncture. The same meridians and acupuncture / acupressure points are selected during the treatment. Cupping is performed in the middle of a Shiatsu session and finished by a light massage.
Moxibustion therapy exist in Japan as a fully developed system of treatment. Moxibustion is a form of heat therapy in which dried plant materials called "moxa" are burned on or very near the surface of the skin. The intention is to warm and invigorate the flow of Ki/Qi in the body and dispel certain pathogenic influences. Moxa is beneficial to many condition, unique to the individual.
CHINETSUKYU - CONE MOXA
Chinetsukyu, or cone moxa is a method used extensively in Meridian Therapy (Keiraku Chiryo). The moxa cones are generally only allowed to burn down around 45% and placed over the acupoint and removed when the patient begins to feel warmth.
ONKYU - HEAT AND PRESSING
Warm jade beauty face massage moxibustion therapy is the latest moxa treatment device. It is ideal for facial sterilization mites, meridian detox, for improving the skin, relieving fatigue puffiness and dark circles under the eyes. Onkyu treatment can be used instead of needles or moxa on sensitive patients or locations. A smaller precision thermie warmer is used for more detailed areas and acupoints.
Using healthy materials, safe and secure, take care of your health. Primarily suitable for multiple areas including the eyes, face, abdomen, foot and so on.
Cupping is an ancient Chinese technique which helps release muscle tension and spasms. Particularly when it comes to neck pain, back pain and leg pains.
Gua sha also know as scraping is an ancient healing technique used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for muscular pain and tension. A blunt instrument is scraped in a certain direction across the affected area causing blood to come to the surface and the pores to open. This technique helps increase blood flow to the area very similar to the result of cupping.
Teishin simply denotes a “needle-like” probe or instrument, which doesn’t penetrate the skin. Thus, this ancient acupuncture therapy is beneficial for those who are anxious or fearful of needles. Commonly, when people picture acupuncture, one of the first things that comes to mind is the tiny needles, which are inserted all over the skin. Although Teishin, it a needle-like instrument, it is not essential for the needles to actually be inserted. The Enshin is very similiar to the inrishin and is used predominantly in Japanese Toyohari. As a Meridian Therapy tool it is used to stimulate meridian in a non-insertive way.

Shonishin treatment involves non-insertion methods with special tools to rub, stroke, press and tap along the meridians to harmonise the distributions of energy throughout the body. In younger children I concentrate more on the distribution of energy throughout the meridians, rather than focusing on specific acupuncture points.
I apply pain-free techniques which help to harmonise the child's energy, and often make them feel calm and relaxed. Shonishin is entirely different from what most people would expect of acupuncture, yet these subtle techniques can have very profound effects.
The Japanese population is the healthiest, and they live the longest in the world generally. What can we learn from them? One Japanese cultural practice is to look for natural healing treatments before resulting in pharmaceutical pills and surgeries. In addition to acupuncture, Shiatsu massage is one of the most popular healing treatments in Japan. Studies from Japan show that Shiatsu massage has both preventative and remedial effects that solve various ailments such as headaches, PMS, digestive disorders, fatigue, fibromyalgia, stress, insomnia, and musculoskeletal pain involving the lower back, neck, tennis elbow and joint pain, Shiatsu massage also is used to treat mental health conditions such as depression, PTSD, and anxiety. So what is Shiatsu massage? And how can a massage be so effective in treating both physical and mental issues?
Shiatsu therapists apply pressure to acupressure points in the body, to increase energy flow and correct imbalances. As with any massage, the pressure applied to the muscles releases toxins, relieves tension, and realigns any problem areas.

Shiatsu is used to maintain and restore health. It is also an effective preventative therapy. People of all ages, including children, can benefit from treatments. Shiatsu:
Shiatsu is a total body therapy which effectively assists with a variety of conditions including: asthma and respiratory illnesses, depression, digestive disorders, constipation, irritable bowel, anxiety, pregnancy, menstrual issues, headaches, migraines, sports injuries, back, neck and shoulder pain, RSI, insomnia, fatigue, muscle tension, heart palpitations, stress and mens health.
The client's medical history and presenting issues are discussed - some therapists will use either all or some of the traditional diagnostic methods of tongue, pulse and hara. The subsequent diagnosis is important in guiding the therapist and each Shiatsu treatment will be tailored specifically for an individual's current needs.
The treatment usually takes place on a soft futon on the floor but may also be given in a sitting position or on a massage table. The aim of Shiatsu is to facilitate the harmonious flow of energy or ki in the body so to promote the health and well being of the mind, body and spirit. Progress and changes are recorded at each subsequent visit and lifestyle recommendations may be made.
Shiatsu combines well with counselling and psychotherapy. It can be used in conjunction with Western medical treatments and modalities to harmonise and strengthen the body. A therapist can explain how Shiatsu will benefit particular conditions and will support you to explore how best to maintain your health.
According to traditional Eastern theory, energy (ki or qi) circulates in the body along channels called 'meridians'. The unobstructed flow of energy through these meridians is essential to good health.
When the body is under stress, ki blockages occur along the channel causing physical, emotional, mental discomfort or pain. The Shiatsu therapist identifies these blockages and designs a treatment to restore the flow of ki and support the body back to its natural balance.
What is ki?
Ki is the basic life force. It is what animates life and is found every where on earth, without it life would not exist. Ki is not static, it is the energy associated with movement, whether it is walking or the movement of blood. In the body, it is a constantly changing flow of energy, which is affected by our moods, stress, illness, injury and lifestyle. It flows in the meridians and affects all aspects of the physical body as well as emotional and mental states. In a healthy body, Ki flows freely but the pressures of everyday life can affect the flow of ki, causing restrictions or blockage in the meridians that may lead to illness and stress.
What are yin and yang?
In nature everything has both yin and yang quality. These qualities are in a continuous relationship and one cannot exist without the other. Yin is a more feminine, receptive, nourishing and relaxing energy whilst yang is a more masculine, active, outgoing, consuming energy. Nothing is completely yin or yang, everything is relative. Yin and yang is the basis of Oriental medicine and is used to understand relationships of the body and the external environment.
What are tsubos?
Tsubo is often translated as 'acupoint' or 'acupuncture point'. Tsubo are points on the meridians that can be stimulated in order to relieve pain and balance ki. The character for tsubo originated in China over 3,000 years ago. It literally translates as 'jar'. On the body a tsubo is shaped like a tiny jar or deep pore. The application of pressure to the appropriate tsubo in shiatsu ensures the release of stagnating ki, allowing it to flow through the body.
